Teams that visit Amor, Fe, y Esperanza are an integral part of the transformation of the Tegucigalpa City Dump community. Not only do they help with construction projects, but they also bring heartfelt stories of their experiences back home, bolstering our support!
Most work teams discover that although they came to bless Honduras, they find themselves tremendously blessed in the process. Here is the second aim of the work trip experience – to share with those from another country and culture and mutually learn from each other.
With these aims in mind (to provide a service experience that will bless the dump community and work team participants), AFE offers the following work-trip options:
A. Week-long Construction Projects
Some teams come with construction or electrical expertise and put a roof on a school in five days. Others come with different sorts of skills and paint murals or smiles on kids faces! We have projects for every sort of skill set and ability. (Contact Rey Diaz for a list of current projects).
Typically teams of 10 – 12 people arrive on Saturday, share with AFE’s church on Sunday, stay in a mission house or hostel/hotel, and then work from Monday – Friday and leave on Saturday. These teams often come from churches, are made up of adults or teenagers, and bring along a leader who helps them to reflect on their experience.
B. Medical Brigades
C. Week-long VBS Projects
The purpose of this trip is to spend a lot of time with the children of AFE and bless them educationally. Sometimes groups organize a week-long VBS, sometimes skits or musical performances to share. These trips follow the format of the week-long construction project but have slightly different aims. In the past, groups have organized special outings and activities for AFE children such as a trip to the water park.
C. Tailor-made Trips
If you have a special vision for how you might serve AFE, let us know and we can most often accommodate! We love it when medical brigade teams, outreach/ministry groups, or martial arts teams come to share with the children! We are flexible and open to what God wants to do through your group.
Cost
$600 per person covers room and board, meals and transportation. We ask that teams not going through WGM purchase their flights, travel insurance, and any needed immunizations and passports on their own.
How do we Sign Up?
Fill out an application for your team and email it to Rey Diaz. He will then contact you to put your team on AFE’s calendar and send you a team preparation packet. Please give us at least three months notice before your team arrives and be flexible with scheduling.
Where will we stay?
Most teams stay in a hostel downtown within walking distance to many safe eating establishments. Hotel Boston costs about $12 per night, per person.
