Our vision is to see the community of the Tegucigalpa Garbage Dump completely transformed so that the people involved experience the type of life we were each meant to live.
Our vision is comprised of four components:
1. Revolutionizing the Dump as an institution
2. Creating a holistic education center which may serve as a path out of garbage work, should they choose another life
3. Developing a Christian church which meets the needs of the whole person and serves every person in the dump
4. Building a safe and healthy community for those connected to garbage work to live in, play, and participate.
1. Revolutionizing the Institution -
Our dream is to see the garbage dump well-managed, with security workers who enforce safety standards and keep children out of the dump, with the task of recycling brought out from amidst the garbage and done in another location, and an organization that cuts out the middle man so that workers may receive a living wage.
2. A Holistic Education Center –
Our dream is to see every child in school instead of working. The education center would provide excellent education, with qualified teachers for pre-school up to 12th grade. There would also be a nursery for infant care and evening classes for adult education. The education will be holistic, teaching children about their personal health and how to participate well in society. In the afternoons there will be an enrichment program, encouraging students to develop their gifting in areas such as art; sports; computer training; etc. There will also be a transition center, offering vocational training for those who might chose a different career path than garbage work. The ultimate goal of the holistic education center is to develop gifted servant-leaders, who discover there God-given potential and bless others with it.

3. A Church which Meets the Needs of the Whole Person -
Our dream for “Amor y Vida” is to fuse two slightly different economic levels into a loving community of God with a heightened sense of purpose and mission. These two cultural groups are the people from the Linda Miller community and those working in the dump. With this diversity, the people of “Amor y Vida” will be able to learn from one another and equally share in the task of the great commission. We want to teach our members to serve as they themselves have been served. Additionally, we recognize that the gospel is not simply a message spoken with words, intended only to provide everlasting life. No, the abundant life that Jesus spoke of is available today and continues into eternity. With this in mind, Amor y Vida serves the needs of the whole person, providing freedom from addictions, healing of physical and psychological disorders, reconciliation among loved ones, and a sense of identity and purpose. It could, in fact, be called a “spiritual hospital” in which people are healed and sent out to serve their God-given purpose.
4. A Safe and Healthy Community -
We dream of purchasing land outside of the dump and organizing its workers to build their homes and create their own community. These homes would provide a haven of health and safety for those who currently live in situations of oppressive poverty and cruelty. Little things, like concrete floors, running water, and electricity, and the stability of homes that last will dramatically change the physical condition, self-perception, and economic level of its inhabitants. Additionally, we dream of a neighborhood that is self-organized, watches out for its neighbor, and participates in community life such as gardening, service projects, and recreational activities.

Join us in this great dream of creating a community pleasing to God
among one of the most desperate situations of the world:
the Tegucigalpa Dump!
