The purpose of the clinic is to holistically meet the needs of the men, women, and children of the trash dump community by providing comprehensive, affordable, and quality healthcare. The clinic currently is open weekday mornings from 8:30am-12:30pm. Patients are seen by appointment only in the afternoons, including children treated by a volunteer pediatrician that visits once a week. There are between 30-40 patients seen daily with illnesses ranging from acute (e.g., asthma attacks, respiratory/GI infections, wound care) to chronic (e.g., hypertension, diabetes). In addition, AFE students are part of vitamin, de-worming, and vaccine programs to prevent illnesses and maintain healthy bodies. There is also a focus on women’s health including PAP smears, breast exams, prenatal checkups, and family planning options. Complete laboratory services are provided to treat acute illnesses and maintain ongoing wellness.
